Why “Frankenstein” Fiction Isn’t As Popular With Teen Girls as “Vampire” Fiction
By Daniel Dominguez
There was a town in Oregon where it always rained. I was a teenage girl in that town, the town of Forks, so named because the sky was always grey. Grey on account of the rain.
I did not like Forks. The ever present gloom caused by the rain caused me to not like the town of Forks. That was, until I met Frank.
It was raining that day. It rained every day in the down of Forks. I was in the school cafeteria, the walls were grey, not unlike the sky.
The other teenagers were absorbed in their own meals. They didn’t talk to me. I was the new girl. I wore the clothes that new girls wear. That was when I met Frank.
He walked up to me sitting alone. He was taller than most boys, 8’5” or 8’6” at least. His jacket was dirty. I liked that. He also glittered, which I thought was cool. And he had a dead cat in his pocket that looked pretty rank. He must have been popular, I reasoned.
“What am you name?!” He spoke-screamed. He sat down and crushed the bench at my table a little bit, then shook his head and grimaced.
“I’m Bells. But whatever,” I said. I brushed a hair out of my eye, then another hair out of my other eye. I looked outside. It was raining. It was raining in the town of Forks.
“Where am that name come from! You name! Where am you name!” Frank took the cat out of his pocket and began bashing it repeatedly against the edge of the table. He was slick, I’ll give him that.
“I’m named after my grandmother. Her name was Bells because she loved to be around Bells.”
“Arghhhhhh!!!!!!” Frank grabbed his head like his head was killing him. I smiled a half-smile, he had a sense of humor. Not like the sky here. The sky in Forks was humorless and grey and I resented it but I didn’t resent Frank.
“What’s your name?” I asked Frank
“Frank-O-Steen cuz of my master! My master gave name! But I hate him so he run! But it never far enough! Now I hear at teen school! I get bad grades! I break all the pencils no can write!” Such sullen words. I knew then that we would go out on a date.
He switched seats and sat down next to me in the grey humorless town Forks in Washington State. I decided to tease him a little bit, in that new girl way.
“I’m not afraid of you,” I smirked and put him hand on his chest.
“You am no should say that! Me am Frank-O-Steen!”
Then Frank tore off the arm I put on his chest and beat me to death with it. He got up and screamed, then threw the carcass of the cat at my body.
“Oh boy! Oh man oh boy Frank you really done it now!”
Later some villagers killed him.
God, typical Forks.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this epic piece of kit. I can tell I’ll be getting absolutely zero rest until I finish the game!!
